Inspired from reading Ruthless Trust by Brennan Manning

Being content in the Lord is not being 'okay' with where you are in life. It's not an attitude of tolerance. Like a lukewarm, meh-it-is-what-it-is attitude. Being content is fulfillment. Being filled to the brim with who God is in your life.

You have so much of him that you don't need anything else from this world.

You don't pray asking for stuff. You're content.

Your prayer is filled with more exultation, his filling. That brings contentment. Our Lord satiates the pallet. The fullness of him combats our loneliness, longing, and emptiness. Not people, girls, relationships, clothes, toys, money, career, work, friends. Him and only Him.

I remind myself again and again contentment is not a lukewarm attitude but it is a spiritual place of rejoicing and praise, because I am filled with his spirit. I am a sinner saved by grace. A sinner who deserved death, but now have the privilege to live, because of what Jesus Christ did. Meditating on this, brings me to a state of joy, beauty, and ultimately true relationship with our Lord. Proving once again that true contentment cannot come from our own efforts let alone from this world. It's a God thing. It's Spirit lead. Spirit motivated. Spirit inspired.

Therefore continue to fill yourself with the Spirit of God. Be content knowing that he has accomplished all things, stating on the cross his famous last words:

'It is finished.’
